Paediatric First Aid (2 day)

Course Overview:

This Paediatric First Aid course and meets the requirements of the Early Years foundation stage statutory framework.  The course focuses on emergency scenarios that are faced by professionals, including teachers, au pairs and playgroup leaders, new mums, looking after young children.

It meets Ofsted requirements for registered childminders and the requirements for nannies under the DfES Approved Carers Scheme and is 12 hours in duration.

Course Details

The content of the course will include how to deal with the following:
  • First Aid provision
  • Action planning
  • Primary Survey/Resuscitation
  • Secondary Survey/Recovery Position
  • Fractures Sprains, Strains and Spinal Injuries
  • Poisoning, bites and stings
  • Embedded objects
  • Childhood conditions (e.g. Mumps, Measles, Meningitis)
  • Choking
  • Asthma/Diabetes/Head injuries/Seizures/
  • Extreme Temperatures
  • Bleeding and bandaging
  • Shock
  • Burns
The course outcome will be that all learners will obtain the correct relevant skills to undertake emergency /first aid duties within a childcare setting.

Course requirements

The qualification is a requirement of all Childcare Practitioners who require registration by OFSTED. This includes Childminders, Nannies, Nursery Practitioners, pre-school & after school club staff working with younger children (those up to puberty). Learners will need to be physically able in order to perform some of the Practical Casualty handling and positions for recovery and CPR.

Course Assessment

The awarding body for this Paediatric First Aid is Qualsafe and it meets Ofsted requirements for registered childminders and the requirements for nannies under the DfES Approved Carers Scheme and continuous assessment will be undertaken throughout the course.
