Automated External Defibrilator (AED)

Course Overview:

This course is to enhance the qualification of existing First Aid trained Employees and takes

three hours to complete.

Course Details

The course will cover how to assist a casualty requiring the use of an Automated External

Defibrilator due to a cardiac arrest. By the end of the course learners will be proficient in

using the AED in an emergency.

The course content will include:

  • Managing an Emergency
  • The Role of the First Aider
  • Caring for a Casualty
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Resuscitation
  • Heart Attacks
  • Getting to know the AED – (Different devices)
  • Operating the AED
  • Practical Scenario

The learning outcomes will be:

  • Learners will obtain the correct relevant skills to understand the safety aspects of when, how and where you can use the Automated External Defibrilator.
  • Recap on your exsisting resusitation skills.
  • Understanding of heart conditions and rhythms and the principles behind the function of the AED machine.

Course requirements

This course is suitable for those employees who have existing knowledge of the latest UK Resuscitation Guidelines and have undertaken one of the following first aid courses previously and their certificate is still valid:

Qualified First Aiders, Emergency First Aiders or Basic First Aiders.

Learners will need to be physically able in order to perform some of the Practical Casualty

handling and positions for recovery and CPR.

Course Assessment

Assessment on CPR skills is in line with the UK Resusitation Counsil.
